Daniel Almeida is a senior strategist with an in-depth understanding of Latin American culture, economy, politics and capital markets. A well-traveled executive with fifteen years of experience in the international and domestic investment management sector, he has worked extensively in the region for the last decade, and his focus has mainly been on evaluating investment ideas, risk methodologies, regulatory policies, legislation and strategy for the financial markets participants, including banks, insurance companies, pension providers, asset managers and consulting companies.
He started his career at the investment bank ING Barings in Brazil, part of ING Group, one of the largest financial conglomerates in Europe, based in The Netherlands. After becoming ING Brazil’s first investment risk manager, was invited to move to USA to join the Regional Risk Management area, where he had responsibilities over Canada and Latin America. He was most recently the Head of Latin America Risk Management for ING Investment Management, and on that role had responsibilities over the risk function in the seven countries where the company operated (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay), overseeing over $80 billion in assets under management.
He was a senior member of all local and regional Investment, Risk and Asset-Liability Committees, and chairman of the Latin America Derivatives Committee, created to oversee and approve all aspects related to use of derivatives in the. Known as a thought leader in the field of Latin America risk and OTC derivatives, he has been an invited expert for several professional and educational conferences and webinars. Daniel Almeida holds a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering from Escola Politécnica of the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and a Masters in Financial Mathematics from the same university. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English, and lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife and two daughters.
